29 Oct 2023: Lightning tournament
This Tuesday 31st Oct sees the annual Selkirk lightning tournament. It's not too serious.
There is a ten-second buzzer, and you move ON THE BUZZER (neither before nor after the buzzer).
It's go-as-you-please, which mean you can join, take a rest, and rejoin whenever suits you.
It will probably produce some disastrous chess, but it's all good fun.

10 Oct 2023: Borders League AGM
The Borders GM was held in the Town Arms on October 10th. It was quite well attended, with 14 members being present (plus 4 apologies) and the discussions themselves ran very smoothly.
With Selkirk only entering one team this year, the League is smaller; but on the other hand we are planning for the Spring (i) an allegro tournament, and (ii) a simultaneous display. We are also looking at extending graded indivudual tournament within the clubs.
Finally, this website will change with a view to centring on the Borders League rather than just the Selkirk Club. It will entail several changes and may take a little time, but it is hoped that it will better reflect what is happening in Borders Chess. Further announcements will be made as things progress.

The upstairs room of the Town Arms
As you can see, we occupy a fairly spacious room above the main bar of the Town Arms. It is a friendly club, and we always welcome new chessplayers.
